What We Believe
We believe that the Holy Bible is God’s book, given to people through the inspiration of His Holy Spirit, and it is the narrative of God’s relationship with people and how to know Him.
We believe that God is one God, eternally existent in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and that He is the creator and sustainer of all things.
We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal, virgin-born, only begotten Son of God and that He died a penal, substitutionary atoning death. Jesus is completely human yet at the same time fully God, and that He is the only way for bringing people into a right relationship with God. Jesus lived a life full, complete and without sin, so He could be a sacrifice for sinful humanity, restoring fellowship with God. As the Scriptures teach, Jesus died, was buried, and rose again on the third day, victorious on humanity’s behalf so we could be restored to God.
We believe in the dignity and worth of every person. Though we are all sinners, we all have value in the sight of God and we believe that Jesus died so that all people could be restored to fellowship with God. God created people to bear His image but because of sin, that image is marred, yet not irretrievable. However, man cannot accomplish this on his own. Through faith in Christ, the image is restored and we are made right with God.
We believe in the mysterious ministry of the Holy Spirit who is God’s special down payment on our relationship with Him. Through the Spirit we are guided in to all truth, are comforted, are taught, and assured of God’s presence with us.
We believe that people were created to live forever. The eternal dwelling place of God is a real place called heaven and through faith in Christ, heaven becomes the guarantee. However, without faith in Christ, a person’s eternal destiny is another real place called hell, a place of eternal separation from God.
We believe in salvation by grace through faith. Jesus Christ was crucified to pay the penalty for sin and by believing in His death, burial, and resurrection, a person can and will be saved. Only through belief in Christ can a person be saved. It is a gift from God and cannot be earned by human effort.
We believe in God’s unique institution, the church. The church is the means by which saved people have fellowship together, learn about the teachings of Christ and how to obey them, and spread the message of God’s love. The church is a group of people bound by faith in Christ and love for one another, seeking to grow in faith and share the message of Christ’s saving grace with our community and ultimately around the world. We also believe in the baptism of new believers and observance of the Lord’s Supper, a communal observance where we remember the sacrifice Christ made.
